FireWire IEEE1394 is a high speed peer-to-peer serial bus. It is used for networking drives, I/O and other industrial field hardware. By plugging into one drive on a system, a user will have access to all parameters in the entire system. Firewire communication is so fast, registration control can be performed via communications. Allows for easy integration of large systems and allows gateways to other protocols listed here. Parker SSD Link is a closed loop, event driven, peer-to-peer, network system. Link communicates over fiber optic cable at 2.7M baud. By plugging into one drive/system module, a user will have access to all of the parameters on the entire system. Allows for easy integration of large industrial systems and allows gateways to other protocols listed here.
Modbus/TCP, Ethernet/IP, and Profinet are widely used and long standing open Ethernet-based protocols that allow networking of SSD drives to a variety of PLC’s, HMI’s, and other devices. Communication speed is 10/100 Mbit/sec, and connections made via easily available "Cat-5" cable and RJ45 connectors. Profibus is a remarkably popular standard for field bus communication, and is commonly used in industrial process automation. This protocol accomodates up to 32 nodes without a repeater, and uses a single-cable "bus" structure, eliminating hard wiring and its related issues.
DeviceNet is a low-level network that provides connections between simple industrial devices such as sensors and motor controllers to higher level devices. DeviceNet is a 4-wire system that uses "twisted pair" cables. Maximum trunk distance is 500 meters, with maximum drop length of meters. . ControlNet is an open network protocol commonly used in industrial automation. It is a real-time control layer network based on the Common Industrial Protocol (CIP), and provides high speed transport of data. It is a highly deterministic and repeatable network. ControlNet uses RG-6 type coaxial cable.
CANopen is a CAN-based higher layer protocol. It was designed for motion oriented machine control networks, and has highly flexible configuration capabilities. It uses simple "twisted pair" cable with maximum length of 500 meters. CANopen can be combined with FireWire or Link for even more network flexibility. Modbus RTU is a basic and efficient protocol that uses RS-232/485 serial network. It operates at 57 kBaud, and can communicate with up to 32 nodes, with maximum cable length of 1200 meters, using RS485. These can also be combined with FireWire or Link for even more network flexibility.
Parker SSD Drives supports the above listed networks as well as: InterBus S, SUCONet, Modbus Plus, EI Bisynch, Johnson Metasys N2, Siemens P1-FLN, Echelon LonWorks and many more. Please contact Parker SSD Drives Customer Service for further details. The descriptions above are not intended to guarantee performance for every combination of drive and network. Please refer to the individual drive manual for specific details.
